PEDro article recognised as one of the Journal of Physiotherapy’s most popular publications

We’re delighted to announce that the article “Reasons to become a volunteer rater for the Physiotherapy Evidence Database (PEDro)” has been listed as one of the most popular Journal of Physiotherapy articles from the past three years, based on social media engagement (PlumX Metrics).

Authored by Junior Fandim, Laura Crowe-Owen, Mykola Romanyshyn and Stephen Chan, the article explores the important role PEDro volunteer raters play in strengthening evidence-based physiotherapy worldwide. It outlines:

  • What volunteer raters do
  • The personal and professional benefits of becoming a rater
  • How to join the PEDro rater community

A focal message of the paper is the shared commitment to “work together to make a difference.” Despite the growing importance of evidence-based practice, only 42% of physiotherapists report a clear understanding of how to apply research findings in clinical care. Some healthcare recommendations are still not aligned with current evidence, and training at the undergraduate level can be insufficient.

Volunteer raters help address these gaps by supporting PEDro’s mission to provide freely accessible, high-quality evidence to physiotherapists around the world.

We extend our thanks to the authors and to our volunteer raters who make PEDro possible.
